Thank you MyDD

I don't know what happened this weekend but there were so many Great diaries this is not one of them and it isn't meant to be.
But as someone mentioned in their wonderful diary this is our moment!(MMR2) We have the opportunity to change the planet for the better. Another diary talked about the North Pole and how it could be a lake by September. These are important issues that we can effect positively. Other diaries reached out to thoses still bruised by the primaries. Of course the war and photos of our soldiers was the most reccomended diary. Then we had a few diaries actually praising and supporting our nominee. This was a dream weekend for me because I always thought that this was a place to exchange and challenge ideas for the purpose of making it better for everyone. Thank you for taking the time to lift us all up. We have a lot of work to do until November and even more after January 20th P.S. No comments are required. Thank you Mydd

George Carlin came to me in a dream and asked me to post this retort;

Re: Thank you MyDD (2.00 / 5)

I saw George Carlin perform many years ago. He is amazing. I enjoyed the clip and understand your point. As George says we are the problem. For example we decided to go to war. We can end the Iraq war. Lets do what we can even if we were just spawned to produce plastic. (See Clip)

It's definitely nice to see (2.00 / 6)

more issue-based diaries. Quite a few trolls out this weekend, but they were more pathetic than destructive.

Re: It's definitely nice to see (2.00 / 4)

To be honest I feared for MYDD once the primary wars were over. I thought it could descend from Bob Johnson's cesspool of hate into a vat of oblivion.

But it's been good to be here as unity takes over. I know we won't agree on everything, but this is still, by and large, a great community and an intimate scale. So well done MYDD for transforming itself for the next phase.

Meanwhile, rather like rounds of golf, there are still plenty of trolls around to squish. Or is that one troll with many aliases? Who knows? Who cares? They just warm us up for whatever pathetic smears the Republicans want to bring

But you're still one of the trolls who is regularly in need of a good squishing.

Loved George, he was a great voice (2.00 / 1)

I differ with his pessimism late in life, but very many of his criticisms were spot-on.

Re: Loved George, he was a great voice (none / 0)

Funny you should say that. George actually changed quite a bit in his later years and came off as bitter and a bit preachy. All that said I thank him for all the times he made me laugh and think at the same time. Amazing guy

Re: It's definitely nice to see (2.00 / 4)

Yes I was wondering what it would be like after the primaries and I too thought it would lack energy but in some ways it's gotten better.

Well, it's certainly been quieter around here (2.00 / 3)

lately. Many of our "star diarists" are gone, except for linfar, who has given her phenomenal support to Obama.

One thing I've always liked about MyDD is the more intimate setting. It's harder to get to know people at DailyKos, but I've made quite a few friends here.

Yes and as you say we don't seem to be yelling as much at each other. We are starting to discuss which means we are more open to diverse views.

Well said, duende... (2.00 / 3)

I was a little leery of coming back here at first, just after Hillary had endorsed Barack. I was afraid that total mayhem had taken over (I had left in May, during the height of the primary wars). But as I came back, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome back. And now, many of you that I used to argue with are now friends.

It's really great to be a part of this community again, and it's awesome that we're all working together now. :-)

No way, no how, no McCain! :-)

Re: It's definitely nice to see (2.00 / 4)

It's true I think you have received quite a few unwelcome visits lately. Maybe it's because your Diaries are more popular. But for some reason I didn't notice as much in other diaries. Or maybe just more issue based diaries as you indicated balanced it out. Have a good week!

Democratic nominee (none / 0)

You don't seem to understand. I was referring to the Democratic nominee.  The Democratic convention is in August; the Republican convention is in September.  Unlike the voters who vote during the primary season, the delegates don't begin voting until the convention (in August) and then the votes are counted and the candidate with the most delegate votes (pledged and superdelegate) becomes the nominee.

Re: Democratic nominee (2.00 / 1)

There is a nominee. He is the presumptive nominee. It might be more proper to call him the candidate. There are only two major candidates left in the race - John McCain and Barack Obama.

Re: Thank you MyDD (none / 0)

I rec'd your diary on general principles even though I am a little concerned that the mydd community is not serious enough about the issues. That is not necessarily a flaw with the community, it might be that i am overly focused on issues instead of what is important to the community.

At the moment, there are the usual five diaries in the rec list and only one of them is about what I consider a policy issue - sricki's Iraq war diary.

The member submitted diary list has two 'issues' diaries in the last 10 that were posted. One of those is about separation of church and state and the other is a dire warning about the state of the economy. The first puts forward a proposal for Obama to come out with a statement that says he puts God before country. The second is what many comments call a 'sky is falling' overly pessimistic look at the state of the economy.

In my opinion, this site seems to be very light on the issues. Among the current top 8 on the front page only two are about the issues. One about the Gay Marriage ban initiative in California and the other about FISA.

If I write a diary about trolls or about PUMA it jumps on the rec list and the comments number in the dozens. If I write a diary about issues or the candidates stances on the issues the diaries sink to oblivion with hardly any comments. That is probably why we don't have more issues diaries.

No one wants to write a diary that will be ignored. People want to have a lively discussion. Fairly dry discussions about platform items or the candidates voting record are not exciting enough to generate comments. My review of McCain's stance on women's issues drew 4 comments other than my own. Only one woman commented in that diary and that was to say that McCain wasn't all that bad. Where are all the outraged female voters? Do they only care about sexism or are they also concerned with all womens issues?

What to do? Should I stick to writing more controversial diaries that will generate comments and probably make the rec list or should I write diaries about the issues that matter in this election. Which ones will further the goal of winning back the White House and help to gain a larger majority in both houses of Congress? Should I write to massage my own ego or should I write diaries that will be less noticed, but possibly more effective in accomplishing our goals? It's a tough call.

Re: Thank you MyDD (none / 0)

I think you should keep on writing about the issues after all that's why we elect these people.
It doesn't surprise me you received few comments
on your female issues Diary because the people writing about sexism were angry at Obama not sexism. The tone has changed here and I think we
will focus more on issues as time goes on.

Re: Thank you MyDD (none / 0)

I think we need to keep hammering McCain on women's issues. I've written about it a couple of times and both times women have come to his defense. This is ridiculous. McCain has a terrible record on women's issues. We have to get that message out there.

I think you are right about why no one commented on that diary. The ones who are doing most of the hollering about sexism don't really care about it, all they care about is the fact that they feel they have been cheated.

Re: Thank you MyDD (none / 0)

Yes I totally agree. Now it almost feels like the tone has changed and more people are starting to at least listen so this is why I think the issues will become more important to the community. After a while we will get sick of agreeing that we support Obama and start fighting over issues.

Some issues are boring to some people but they are important. I still think we have to try and make our concerns known even if you can't write and I'm talking about me in this case.
